Skylanders Swap Force Portal Problem? Wii

I just got the game for the Wii and the Portal works fine but when I turn the Wii off the portal freezes and won't turn off so everything I have to unplug the portal from the Wii, anyone else have this problem?

What do you mean when you say "The portal freezes"?

Like it shifts to the color green and just stays on even though the Wii is off

No. It stays on unless you unplug it.
