So, it looks like Disney will be bringing Artemis Fowl to the big screen. If you haven't had a chance to read the books, they are with giving them a shot. This is right up Disney's alley. Lots of magic. Great characters. I'm looking forward to it.

Oh, Artemis Fowl! I had to read the book in the fourth grade and I loved it! When will the movie launch? And will there be an Infinity 2 tie-in?

Disney have said the Artemis Fowl movie is "about 12-year-old Artemis who is a millionaire, a genius – and above all, a criminal mastermind. But Artemis doesn't know what he's taken on when he kidnaps a fairy (Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon Unit) to harness her magic to save his family. These aren't the fairies of the bedtime stories – they're dangerous."

The film is being scripted by Michael Goldenberg, who wrote Warner Bros's Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The Weinsteins retained the rights to produce the project under their separation agreement with Disney in 2005. So far, there is no director on board and no casting details.

I remember these books. They were especially popular when I was in elementary through junior high. Everybody read them. Everyone but me, that is. I tried reading the first one and just couldn't get into it. It just didn't click with me for whatever reason.

To be honest, I'm kind of surprised that it took them so long to make a movie. But now that the HP ,Twilight, and even Diary of a Wimpy Kid films are over, everyone's looking for that next big kid-lit series to replace them, and Artemis Fowl could very well be it.

My sister is OBSESSED with these books. She apparently cried during some of them. So she will be happy.

I have read up to the Lost Colony. I stepped away from them, but they are a pretty good set of books. It does fit real well into the Disney Universe. It would be a decidedly different take on fairies and trolls and things like that.
