MockingjayScans from the ‘Catching Fire’ Entertainment Weekly Feature
The latest edition of Entertainment Weekly, which includes a massive feature on The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, is now available in digital form and thanks to our friends at THG Australia we now have scans of the full article for your viewing pleasure.
In the interview, they talk with director Francis Lawrence, producer Nina Jacobson, and cast members Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Sam Claflin. The talk about first meetings, which scenes from the first movie they would do over if they could, the balance between the visual and the emotional in a film, Lynn Cohen and how adorable she is (awwww!), funny moments on set, Jennifer’s wardrobe malfunctions during Awards season, working with Philip Seymour Hoffman, the anxiety of both being typecast and of these films wrapping (we feel your pain, Jennifer!), and which scene was the hardest for Jennifer to film.
The article also includes an online-only add-on where they talk with Jena Malone about her character, Johanna Mason, and she confirms that two scenes fans have been very anxious about will be included in the movie:
When we first meet Johanna Mason, a ferocious, ax-wielding victor from District 7, it’s on an elevator with Haymitch, Katniss and Peeta. She stares down the trio and process to strip naked. “It’s one of the best introductions to a character ever,” says 28-year old Jena Malone. “I had to learn how to do a strip tease in four seconds.”
For Malone, Johanna defies expectations for women in genre films. “She’s not just another badass sexy female,” she says. “Her sexuality is a weapon. Her humor is a weapon. They’re part of her process of coping with the fact that she killed all her friends in her won Hunger Games.” Malone can’t shake one particular scene in which her entire body is drenched in blood. “I felt like this gladiator,” she says. “The cameras would cut and I would still have this crazy energy surging through me. Johanna took over.”
There’s so many great moments in this amazing interview, I’m having a hard time choosing stuff to quote. Just go ahead and read the whole thing, it’s one that cannot be missed! Take a look at the scans below.
