2.0 Help - Collectible Tracker / Counter / Timer

Postby pjhaan » Sat Mar 05, 2016 4:47 am

I am going back and finishing a box I started way back in 2.0. It is an Anti-gravity racing box which I have been told no longer works in 3.0.

I have a challenge maker that activates a timer that counts down from 1 minute. There will be text that says you have enough power to race for 1 minute but there are power cells located on the track to give you X extra seconds of power. In 3.0, I could simply use a collectible tracker --> Collecter --> Timer --> Add Time. Unfortunately, this option does not exist in 2.0. You can only pause, start, show or hide the timer.

I have a basic connection set up that pauses the timer by using a time delayer:
Collected --> Time Delayer --> Start
Collected --> Timer --> Pause
Time Delayer --> Completed --> Timer --> Start

This works great for ONE item. But I need to set it up for multiple items. If I collect a second power cell while the timer is still paused, I need to store the count some how. For this, I need to create a circuit of some sort.

I tried this set up but the timer never restarts:

Collectible Tracker --> Collected by Any --> Logic Gate (1) --> Open
Collectible Tracker --> Collected by Any --> Counter --> Increment --> by 1
Counter --> Zero Reached --> Logic Gate (1) --> Close
Counter --> Changed --> Logic Gate (1) --> Input
Logic Gate (1) --> Output --> Time Delayer --> Start
Logic Gate (1) --> Output --> Timer --> Pause
Time Delayer --> Completed --> Logic Gate (2) --> Input
Logic Gate (2) --> Output --> Timer --> Start
Logic Gate (2) --> Output --> Counter --> Decrement --> by 1

I thought this would work because the first action of opening the logic gate and then inputing from the counter changed action.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

@pjhaan, I used collectibles to subtract time from the timer in my Madness on Malastare toy box. As the timer was counting up to the target time collecting the object would subtract 5 seconds thus adding time to complete the track. That sounds similar to what you are trying to do. I don't remember what I did, but if you can wait a couple of days I could look at it on Monday. Or since I didn't save it as a toy box game you could dissect it yourself.

Wasn't that a 3.0 box? In 3.0 the timer has an add and subtract time connection.

I am working on a 2.0 box and there isno such connection.

:oops: Oh, sorry. I misread that. I thought you were trying to completely redo a 2.0 box for 3.0. i guess I should read more carefully.

How dare you try to help! Just kidding...thanks!

No worries, I have misread more than my fair share if posts.

I changed the order on some of the connections above and got it closer to working. The timer will restart but it doesn't stop again if the counter isn't at zero.

The time starts again and I can see the counter decrements immediately. The three second delay isn't there. It just drops 4 3 2 1.

I think I need an extra logic gate to handle the delay. I think the timers for the four test items are running concurrently. The original logic gate would close the new one on output. The logic gate connected to the completed action on the time delayer would open it again. That would prevent the time delayer from being called a second time while it was still running.

I will have to try it after the kids go to bed...

Here is the solution I finally got to work if anyone else needs to make a circuit for a timed collectible challenge in 2.0.

It used the collectible tracker, counter, time delayer and three logic gates.

Collectible Tracker --> Collected by Any --> Logic Gate (1) --> Open
Collectible Tracker --> Collected by Any --> Counter --> Increment --> by 1
Counter --> Zero Reached --> Logic Gate (1) --> Close
Counter --> Changed --> Logic Gate (2) --> Input
Logic Gate (1) --> Output --> Logic Gate (2) --> Close
Logic Gate (1) --> Output --> Time Delayer --> Start
Logic Gate (1) --> Output --> Timer --> Pause
Time Delayer --> Completed --> Logic Gate (2) --> Input
Logic Gate (2) --> Output --> Timer --> Start
Logic Gate (2) --> Output --> Logic Gate (2) --> Open
Logic Gate (2) --> Open --> Counter --> Decrement --> By 1

Now I just need to finish the decor and placing the collectibles...
